For me, teaching is listening.

If you want to revive an old skill from childhood, are starting from scratch, or are an advanced player looking to hone your skills, we can find a way forward with a tailored course of study and guidance.

I have taught for the past twenty years of my twenty-two-year career as a professional musician because I love teaching!

Despite my broad range of professional work as a musician, I've always taught, as I believe I learn as much from my pupils as I do from my classical training. I studied Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music and Royal Academy of Music, Music at Manchester University, and Collaborative Composition at the Royal College of Music.

I teach beginners and advanced musicians alike, in whole-class school settings and composition workshops, alongside a more bespoke approach in private tuition, with many long-term students. Although I have successfully taken students through ABRSM and Trinity music exams, my passion is teaching music for pleasure. My naturally empathic and intuitive nature means I am an expert at tailoring lessons to the distinct needs and goals of the student.

I am currently on the board of examiners for Trinity Music Theory exams (grades 1-8) and on the panel of tutors for THAMES music service (Tower Hamlets, London).

As a composer, I have worked with many of the leading British orchestras, including the London Sinfonietta, BBC Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Hallé Youth Orchestra, and Britten-Pears Orchestra.

As a violinist, pianist and backing vocalist, I've worked with international pop, rock, and folk groups and artists including Lana Del Rey, Years & Years, Kylie Minogue, The Irrepressibles, Mercury-nominated Sam Lee, and I am a longstanding collaborator with Grammy-nominated Olivia Chaney.

We can decide together. Learning music works best with weekly sessions. Some pupils prefer the same time slot each week, whereas others prefer to schedule ad hoc. As a freelance musician, my timetable can sometimes be sporadic. I will do my best to accommodate your circumstances, and I appreciate your reciprocated flexibility when it comes to my work schedule.

What happens if I have to cancel a lesson?

I have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Please notify me with as much warning as possible if you can no longer attend an agreed lesson time. It is at my discretion to charge you for a missed lesson with only short notice given (48 hours or less). In some cases, it will be possible to reschedule a lesson within 24 hours. In the case of any changes to a regular schedule, I will notify you in advance and offer an alternative lesson time where possible.
